Arrival at Johannesburg International Airport. Proceed through immigration, firearms control and customs. Then, in the same international terminal, take the lift to level 2 departure area for Air Botswana’s scheduled jet flight to Maun, the hub of the Okavango Delta region. (Not included in safari price). Arrive at Maun. Gamebirds Safari commences. Met on arrival by Gamebirds Botswana staff and assisted, with all the required paper work, through firearms control in Maun airport.
Drive, or fly, depending on the distance, for about an hour to our first shooting area. Arrive in time for a late lunch at our “Manyara style” all en suite tented safari camp on the edge of the Okavango Delta, where the permanent water of the Okavango is bordered by riverine forest. Late lunch. Unpack, settle in, relax and freshen-up before tea, at 3.30pm. Thence to the first of the busy late afternoon flighted dove shoots of the safari. With plenty of action from a variety of doves presenting different shots, this is an excellent way to start our Botswana shooting programme and to get back into the “swing” of shooting before the rest of our days afield in Africa!
Sundowners in the field as dusk falls and a snack to go with them then back to camp for a hot shower and a change. The evening, and dinner with excellent South African wines, will be spent around an open camp fire, before retiring some time later. You probably won’t hear many of the night sounds, for which Africa is unique, on this your first night out! Overnight Gamebirds Okavango wilderness safari camp. (All inclusive).
